Dr. Nel is a Cardiothoracic Surgeon in full-time private practice at Netcare Kuilsriver Hospital. After completing his undergraduate studies in Pretoria, he moved to Cape Town in 2012 to advance his medical career and pursue specialist training at Tygerberg Hospital and the University of Stellenbosch.

Dr Riaan Nel is a highly experienced surgeon with over 15 years of experience. He has a passion for helping his patients achieve their health goals and providing them with the best possible care.
With a focus on heart and lung surgery, he ensures that each patient receives the highest standard of medical care.
Dr. Nel is passionate about innovative surgical techniques and recently made strides by performing the first minimally invasive endoscopic rib fixation in the Western Cape. He also has a special interest in thoracic reconstructive surgery and is dedicated to developing new approaches to address the challenges in this field.
Our team of dedicated nursing staff at Netcare Kuilsriver is committed to ensuring that our patients receive the highest quality care possible. They provide compassionate and attentive care to all of our patients, helping to make their experience as comfortable as possible.
Dr. Nel is an avid semi-professional cellist since the age of 7, and have been involved in various professional productions and studio recordings. Besides being a busy surgeon, he enjoys quality time with his wife and two daughters.
He earned his master’s degree with a thesis titled “The Surgical Outcome of Infective Endocarditis in South Africa over 10 Years: A Retrospective Review” which he completed cum laude. This research is among several publications in various international journals.
